Members of the basic family

Mean a family from your own bloodline when I say “basic family.”

  • Paternal Aunt => (sister of one’s father)

  • Niece =>  (daughter of one’s brother or sister)

The phrase “extended family” refers to family members who are not related to you by blood but who become your family members once you marry.

  • Stepfather =>  (a person who is married to the mother of a child but is not the child’s biological father)
  • Son-in-law => (husband of one’s daughter)
  • Stepson => (a son from a previous marriage of one’s husband or wife)
  • Brother-in-law => (brother of one’s wife or husband)
  • Father-in-law =>  (father of one’s husband or wife)
